Secrets of a Science Communicator: Engaging General Audiences

Friday, February 17, 2012: 8:00 AM-9:00 AM
Room 111-112 (VCC West Building)
Scientists are often asked to explain the pressing issues of our society to general audiences, but effectively communicating science is a difficult skill to master. In this workshop, participants will learn how to connect with nontechnical audiences – emotionally, critically, and visually – and how to attract new audiences to their work. This workshop is for anyone who asks: What do general audiences really want to know about science? How do I find a compelling story in my research study? How can I design powerful visuals to engage and inspire nonscientists? Whether you are a scientist or a student, our simple framework will help you to cut through the noise and get your story heard by funders, government, media, or the public.
