Stiffness, elasticity, and other material and mechanical properties of tissue and the extra-cellular microenvironment have significant relationships with tumor genesis, tumor reversion and metastasis processes at from cellular to organismal length scales. Training mechanical engineers in sophisticated cell culture and tissue work is creating a new domain of mechanobiology with exciting implications for breast cancer.
