It is increasingly accepted that there are few simple correlations between phenotype and genotype,and phenotypes develop as a result of interactions between genes and environments. One implication is that different human environments may affect gene expression so that the same gene might have a different phenotype in Buffalo, Budapest, or Beijing. This talk will consider this kind of genetic localism, together with possible implications for technologies such as personalized medicine.
