The Obama Administration has placed a strong priority on sustaining U.S. Federal investments in research and development (R&D). Within the Federal R&D portfolio, the Administration has instituted several policies to encourage high-risk, high-return research and to encourage innovative mechanisms for supporting R&D. The presentation will discuss Obama Administration policies to encourage high-risk, high-return research; multidisciplinary research; improved links betwen research and commercialization; innovative funding mechanisms including inducement prizes and regional innovation grants; and also strategies for managing Federal portfolios in research.
