I will review the values that peer review provides to the scientific enterprise, provide some behind-the-scenes insights into how it is conducted at a journal with professional in-house editors, discuss what authors, readers and reviewers consider as the pros and cons of the  current system, highlight some of the uses and abuses of Impact Factors, and present some of the challenges and opportunities for peer review arising from the changing landscape of science and publishing technologies.
