Keynote analysis of the societal, economic, ethical and environmental consequences of animal-based meat production systems. As imminent and long-term solutions, respective existing and emerging low-impact technologies for the production of animal-free meat alternatives are introduced followed by an overview of policy guidelines facilitative for their development, commercial production and consumer acceptance.
