Prof Cogdell’s research concentrates on using the information gained from structural and functional studies on the purple bacterial (Rhodopseudomas acidophila) pigment-protein complexes to devise ways of using solar energy to produce fuels.
Prof Cogdell collaborates with experimental physicists and chemists and theoreticians in the UK, Europe and US. He is working on synthetic biology approaches to develop a robust chemical analogue for natural photosynthesis.
