Walk into any bookstore and one will find the shelves teeming with books on obesity and weight loss.  However, many of these books are based on sketchy scientific evidence.  Here, I will show how basic facts of physics and physiology encapsulated in simple mathematical models of human body weight change can be used to scrutinize many myths and truths associated with obesity, weight gain and weight loss.
