The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) was established in 1990 to ‘lead the development and application of space knowledge for the benefit of Canadians’. The Polar Communications and Weather Mission (PCW) will provide reliable communications and navigation services in the high latitudes (North of 70º), high temporal/spatial resolution meteorological data above 50º N, and space weather monitoring under the auspices of a Canadian-led mission with international partnerships. Motivated by the pressing global need to address the consequences of a rapidly changing environment, a gap in global observation systems, increasing importance of space weather phenomena, and Increasing economic activity in the Arctic, the PCW will safeguard security and commerce at the top of the world.
