This presentation will discuss a multi-year NSF-sponsored translational research project that has been examining cognitive and learning practices in bio-engineering sciences research labs. The objective is both to understand the nature of the modeling practices in these areas and the challenges they create for learning. As part of the project we have been translating findings from these sites of practice into instructional settings both classroom and lab.
