Restructuring research at the U.S.D.A. to meet the challenges of agriculture: Priorities and Goals of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture

NIFA was formally announced on Oct. 8, 2009 and in the intervening period has established a new structure for extramural research at the USDA. Similarly, the research agenda was modified to focus efforts on the major challenges that must be met by American agriculture. Increasing emphasis is being placed on multidisciplinary research teams that are expected to produce significant outcomes that will impact U.S. and global citizens. A status report of the organization and functions of NIFA and its goals will be presented.
