Prof. Vaishnav is one of the leading atomic and molecular theorists of her generation. She has shown how relativistic Dirac physics, topological insulators, graphene and spintronics can be implemented in experimentally accessible ultracold atom systems, and has published a number of papers on the emerging paradigm of "atomtronics", which replaces electrons with atoms as carriers of information, conveyed in structures of standing light waves that resemble material crystals, but are subject to much more flexible control. She is an inspiring speaker with much experience in engaging both undergraduate and professional audiences.
