Established in 1982, the Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources is an international treaty between 25 nations to manage fisheries in the Southern Ocean. It is extremely difficult for individual countries to enforce policies in this vast and inhospitable region, making the data-sharing aspect of the partnership extremely valuable. The associated research activities take an ecosystem approach and aim to preserve species diversity and stability of the entire Antarctic.
