Other than for oil & gas operations and commercial fishing, there are often no publicly available data on the spatial distribution of consumptive and non-consumptive uses of the marine environment. Completed and ongoing projects in the waters off California and New Hampshire are providing decision makers with the knowledge needed to identify conflicts with sustainable use and to separate incompatible activities in the sea.
