The U.S. Geological Survey is collaborating with the Iraqi government and academic institutions on scientific activities to support economic development and stabilization in the natural resources sectors of Iraq. This multi-disciplinary effort includes assessing nonfuel mineral and water resources, increasing agricultural productivity, and establishing a national spatial data infrastructure. Capacity building of Iraqi geoscientists and institutions is integral to all project activities. This effort also promotes scientific cooperation between the Iraqi government and the autonomous Kurdistan regional government.
