Learn How To Effectively Communicate Science in Diverse Situations

Saturday, February 20, 2010: 11:00 AM-12:30 PM
Marina Ballroom F (San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina)
Many scientists want to be able to communicate science effectively to a variety of audiences. The Science and Health Education Partnership (SEP) at UCSF has extensive experience supporting accessible, high-quality science education. SEP has developed the Scientist Teaching Workshops to prepare scientists to become better communicators and teachers of science. This workshop will discuss ways to integrate active teaching into instruction, while modeling techniques to assess students’ prior knowledge and actively involve all students. Strategies to shift traditional labs to more student-centered investigations will be included. The presenters will use a variety of approaches and explicitly discuss their use and application.
