Career Boosters for Women and Minority Scientists

Friday, February 19, 2010: 1:00 PM-2:30 PM
Marina Ballroom G (San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina)
Today many research institutions, professional organizations, and government agencies run support programs to help women and ethnic minorities access scientific careers and further enhance workforce diversity. But many underrepresented scientists may still be at a disadvantage when looking for a Ph.D. degree or a postdoc or faculty position. This workshop will look at the additional barriers that women and minority scientists may encounter and offer practical advice on how to overcome them. Drawing on first-hand experiences and the expertise of mentors and recruiting principal investigators, this workshop aims to help underrepresented scientists go onto the next rung of the academic career ladder.
