Climate change represents one of the core issues of sustainability.  Adapting to the changing climate requires collaboration among climate scientists, social scientists, policymakers, and citizens.  A two-way interaction between science and society, and the co-evolution of the two are often advocated as a model for sustainability, but practicing it remains a challenge.  We discuss the experience with the Asian Development Bank-JICA-World Bank assessment that examined the potential consequences of climate change in the Asia coastal cities.  We discuss the achievements and reflect on the difficulties encountered during the assessment.
