The presentation will cover the current scientific approaches and knowledge on the GHG effects of indirect land use change in Europe, and will specifically introduce the "iLUC factor" as a near-term proxy for policy-makers. Work of the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Commission will be covered. Further remarks will concern "risk mapping" for iLUC, and the work carried out in the GBEP Sustainability Task Force on indirect effects of bioenergy. Finally, perspectives for further work will be given, focussing on international cooperation options.
