Canada has had several policies and strategies since two decades (1989 to 2009) to increase the participation of women in science and engineering at all levels: in undergraduate education programs, graduate studies, women faculty and women researchers. The measures had some success in increasing the participation of women. However, some of the measures were eliminated after a period of time, while others were modified to include another under-represented group: Aboriginal communities. The speaker will conclude by suggesting what the next steps should be for the coming decade to push the envelope of progress in Canada and elsewhere.
