George Hart, http://georgehart.com, is a research professor at Stony Brook University where he focuses on computational geometry. In his art, he uses laser-cut wood or metal to create large mathematical sculptures which are assembled by groups of people at “sculpture barn raising” events. When many people participate in making a geometric artwork, it creates a community who share the joy of mathematical creativity while informally learning about beautiful geometric structures.
