Coal dust, a fine powdered form of coal, is created by crushing, grinding, or pulverizing coal. Coal dust, which is created during mining, transportation, or by mechanically handling, is a direct health hazards—e.g., respiratory and cardiovascular disease. This presentation will review the epidemiology of airborne particles, like coal dust, which shows that exposure to PM2.5 is linked with all-cause premature mortality, cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary mortality, and respiratory illnesses.
