Research for energy efficiency combines science across the classical disciplines, like physics or chemistry, and connects to various engineering disciplines. The move into application adds the need for education of students and training of skilled workforce. Research for energy efficiency combines research and development with training and education. Examples for R&D and academic training and development are given. Aspects of knowledge and know-how dissemination across borders are highlighted.
